How Mama’s aren’t perfect! Did you know that ‘dilatory’ is a word?

Ha! I just learned that.
Dilatory (DILL-uh-tor-ee) ~ it’s an adjective ~ relating to procrastination!

Which brought me to; Alright world, time to take you on!

Why do I react a particular way to any particular situation?

HI again, So, I am sitting here thinking about what to write. I read a lot, however, don’t always remember what I read, rather remember the theme of what I read. I am not even sure that makes any sense. I literally feel stumped as to how to present to you what I want to say in an easy to read article that doesn’t bore the heck out of you.

I was looking back at what I have already expressed blogging since I first hit publish and noticed a theme. I certainly do not want to write about the same thing every time as it doesn’t seem to be very forward thinking and it literally, just keeps me, stuck in one place.

When you start thinking about a growth mindset and become more self-aware, it can be quite empowering. This part of my life story will be growing for as long as I am alive and I will continue to share stories, my knowledge and insights as we go.

However,

Right now,

In this present moment

I think it is necessary to realize that the world is changing, and we need to accept that this can have an effect on our ability to concentrate. Things that make us happy, things that motivate us and keep us in a positive mindset become a challenge to remember. We become more survival mode oriented, instead of being growth mindset oriented.

The ability to separate irrelevant information from relevant information and as we get older (if you are younger reader I am sure this applies to you in some format) our ability to overcome distraction, becomes way more challenging.

“Limit your amount of distraction and increase your ability to concentrate. “
Sure! I’ll get right on that!

It is so hard to remain focused when you are depleted by taking care of all the basics, drained from dealing with overwhelm and anxiety and simply just  being OK. Growth mindset literally becomes second on your list. Which I guess is good because the necessities of life are equally important. When we have any anxiety, we feel terrible and it makes things you are trying to do or accomplish, that much harder.

Have you ever learned something new in a random kind of way?

Ya, for sure. I tend to learn new things randomly all the time.

Like the other day, I wanted to pressure wash my deck because I wanted the boys and I and my mom, to have a nice BBQ outside, earlier instead of 8PM and sit together and enjoy good conversation. Since I bought an electric pressure washer last year,

I thought I had this in the bag. But…

The little black O-rings were old and cracked and would leak. Did I have new ones? Of course, NO. After searching my tools and containers of bits and pieces for about an hour, I decided to jimmy something together by putting Teflon tape around the O-ring to help stop the leaks. Then I could get started. I was feeling frustrated because I just wanted to get going and at this point I really just wanted the stupid thing to work. Next the water hose.

I turn on the water and it sprays everywhere from the tap, so now I am digging through all my gardening supplies to find a new garden hose splitter, tap, adapter thingy.

Then notice that the handle holding the adapter up had a star fitting and not a Robinson.

So now on the hunt for a driver fitting to unscrew the handle. Three adapters later, I get the hose not leaking and hooked up to the pressure washer, I see no leaks. YaY …. but then …

the power tripped and I ended up hand scrubbing the whole deck by hand and just using the garden hose to rinse of the soap.

Seriously?
All that time, to end up hand washing the damned deck anyway?

Now its later and the plan for an earlier BBQ, gone!

To top it all off, I ended up having a BBQ fire (small) and the darned hamburgers burnt.

What did I learn?

I was feeling frustration to the fullest. I was grumpy and all of a sudden feeling rushed like I had somewhere to be. I started to have a reaction that was excessive, a bit much and really just overreacting.

So re-frame thinking.

I learned something new. I was creative in problem solving by fixing the leaks, I fixed the outside water tap adapter and got an excellent work out in the process. And lets not forget… a clean deck! So what, if life events didn’t pan out. Even though we have days, as I did, where you just feel as though you will burst into tears. Thinking of as many excuses as I could for feeling what I felt, instead of just feeling it, accepting it and moving on. Here is an inspiring video, shared with me, now sharing with you. Click HERE.

It’s us and our thoughts placing fear and blockades in our path.
Let’s stop hiding and get going.

So I decided that my relationship with time is going to change. Since it is not a good one, and I have had this self-awareness for some time, I am publicly announcing that my relationship with time needs to improve and…

So it begins. Really.

My relationship with Time project. How to beat the dilatory (DILL-uh-tor-ee) way of thinking and create more time for yourself.

I may get more creative with the name, and I will keep you posted with that. Stay and learn with me though, I will figure out something and hopefully we can fight that procrastination together and keep that growth mindset going.
